A chilling alert spread across the Atlanta metropolitan area Monday morning: three inmates, facing severe felony charges, had vanished from the DeKalb County Jail in Decatur. The escape, discovered during a routine security check, immediately triggered a massive manhunt, raising fears for public safety.
Authorities have identified the fugitives as Stevenson Charles, 24; Yusuf Minor, 31; and Naod Yohannes, 25. Each man represents a significant threat, with charges ranging from armed robbery and arson to the most violent of crimes – murder.
Stevenson Charles, in particular, is considered “extremely dangerous.” He was serving a life sentence and faces a litany of accusations beyond murder and armed robbery, including horrific charges of child rape and kidnapping. His history paints a picture of ruthless violence and disregard for human life.
Law enforcement describes Charles as 5’7” and approximately 200 pounds, with known connections to both Atlanta and Miami. This suggests a potential for fleeing beyond the immediate area, broadening the scope of the search.
Yusuf Minor is accused of two counts of armed robbery and two counts of possessing a firearm while committing a felony, indicating a propensity for brazen, armed confrontations. His escape adds another layer of urgency to the ongoing investigation.
Naod Yohannes, while facing less severe charges of simple assault, arson, and violence within a penal institution, still poses a risk. His inclusion in the escape suggests a coordinated effort among the three inmates.
Sheriff Melody M. Maddox has stated the breach is being taken with the utmost seriousness, and every available resource is being deployed to recapture the escaped inmates. The priority is the swift and safe return of these individuals to custody.
The public is strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and absolutely avoid approaching any of these individuals. Anyone with information regarding their whereabouts should immediately contact the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Tip Line at 404-298-8200.
