ISRAEL UNDER ATTACK: Terrorist Rampage Leaves Nation Reeling

A wave of terror struck northern Israel Friday, leaving a trail of devastation and grief. A Palestinian attacker deliberately drove his car into pedestrians, then escalated the violence with a brutal stabbing, claiming the lives of two Israelis.

The initial attack unfolded in Beit Shean, where the assailant plowed his vehicle into a crowd, instantly killing one man and injuring a teenager. Undeterred, he continued his rampage, speeding onto a nearby highway and fatally stabbing a young woman near Afula, while also wounding another individual.

Authorities swiftly identified the victims as Aviv Maor, a young man whose life was just beginning, and Shimshon Mordechai, a 68-year-old man. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, their lives tragically cut short by senseless violence.

In this photo released by Israel Police on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, Israeli police officers work on the site where a vehicle was used, according to the authorities, during a suspected ramming and stabbing attack in Afula, northern Israel.

The attack sent shockwaves through the nation, prompting immediate condemnation from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, who expressed his horror at the “horrific killing spree.” He affirmed Israel’s commitment to bolstering security measures in the region to protect its citizens.

In a swift response, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to retaliate, targeting the assailant’s hometown of Qabatiya in the West Bank. He authorized troops to “act forcefully and immediately” against what he termed “terrorist infrastructure.”

The directive signals a familiar pattern: Israel frequently conducts raids in the West Bank towns associated with attackers, sometimes demolishing the homes of their families. Officials maintain these actions are crucial for dismantling militant networks and preventing future attacks.

However, these tactics are not without controversy. Human rights organizations denounce such measures as collective punishment, arguing they unfairly target communities and exacerbate tensions.

Qabatiya has been a focal point of Israeli military activity in recent weeks. Just days prior, a Palestinian resident was killed by Israeli forces, an incident currently under review following the release of security footage that raised questions about the circumstances of the shooting.

This latest attack occurs against the backdrop of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, ignited by the Hamas attack on October 7th that resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 Israelis and the abduction of 251 hostages. The conflict has unleashed a devastating toll on Gaza, claiming tens of thousands of Palestinian lives.

The war has also fueled a surge in violence across Israel and the occupied West Bank, marked by increased attacks from Palestinian militants and a disturbing rise in violence perpetrated by Israeli settlers against Palestinians. The cycle of violence continues to deepen, leaving a landscape scarred by loss and fear.

The memory of a September attack in Jerusalem, where gunfire at a bus stop claimed six lives and wounded twelve, remains fresh in the minds of many. These escalating incidents underscore the fragility of peace and the urgent need for a resolution to the long-standing conflict.
