The incident began when officers attempted a routine traffic stop of a 2014 Mazda 3 GT in the city’s north end. Instead of complying, the driver – identified as a 16-year-old boy – slammed on the accelerator, initiating a dangerous pursuit that would soon put others at risk.
Just blocks from the initial attempt to stop the vehicle, the Mazda disregarded a stop sign and violently impacted the side of a moving transit bus. Remarkably, despite the force of the collision, no one on board the bus sustained injuries, a stroke of incredible luck.
The driver, abandoning the wrecked vehicle, fled on foot, but his escape was short-lived. Police quickly apprehended the teen and took him into custody, where he now faces a staggering array of charges.
