HOMEOWNER SHOT INTRUDER...NOW FACES JAIL?!

A quiet Saturday night in Muncie, Indiana, shattered as a homeowner confronted a terrifying intrusion. Daniel Songer, 33, found himself facing an armed man who violently forced his way into the residence, falsely claiming to be law enforcement.

The intruder, identified as 28-year-old Marcus Brown Jr., allegedly kicked in the front door. Songer, acting swiftly, retrieved his girlfriend’s handgun and fired upon the assailant, a desperate act to defend himself and his home.

Immediately after the shooting, Songer dialed 911, calmly relaying the harrowing events to dispatchers. He explained the forced entry, the false claim of police authority, and the sustained gunfire until the weapon malfunctioned, believing the intruder was no longer alive.

Two individuals are seen on a porch at night, one standing still while the other appears to be moving quickly, captured by a security camera.

Responding officers arrived to find Brown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate transport to a local hospital, Brown succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The scene corroborated Songer’s account, revealing significant damage to the front door consistent with a violent breach.

Following dispatcher instructions, Songer had placed the unloaded handgun on the porch before police arrived. Investigators later reviewed video footage confirming Songer’s actions, showing him firing the weapon within his home.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn. Despite the apparent evidence of a home invasion and an armed confrontation, Songer was arrested and initially charged with obstruction of justice and unlawful carrying of a handgun.

Investigators learned Songer was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a prior felony conviction, explaining his use of his girlfriend’s weapon. This detail complicated the case, shifting the focus of the investigation.

Further scrutiny of the video revealed a curious sequence of events. Before the arrival of law enforcement, Songer was seen moving a cardboard box away from a fish tank and handing it to his girlfriend.

That box was later recovered at a separate residence, revealing vacuum-sealed packages containing a substance suspected to be marijuana. This discovery broadened the scope of the investigation, adding drug-related charges to the unfolding drama.

As of Sunday, Songer remained in the Delaware County Jail, held on a $10,000 bond. The Muncie Police Department continues its investigation, meticulously piecing together the full sequence of events from a night that began with a violent intrusion and ended with a complex web of legal consequences.
