The final hours of 2023 dissolved into a nightmare for women in Toronto’s west end, as police now allege a man terrorized the area with a series of brutal assaults. A 32-year-old man is now in custody, but the investigation reveals a disturbing detail: he was already under court supervision when the attacks occurred.
The first harrowing incident unfolded just after noon on December 31st, near Dundas Street West and Kipling Avenue. A woman reported an armed robbery and break-and-enter, but the situation quickly escalated into a horrific sexual assault. The assailant allegedly stole her phone before disappearing.
The same suspect, police believe, relentlessly pursued a second victim, following her into a nearby condominium building. He allegedly forced his way into her apartment and committed another sexual assault. The violence didn’t stop there.
A third woman, already inside the apartment, was also subjected to sexual assault, turning a home into a scene of unimaginable trauma. The swift succession of attacks created a wave of fear throughout the neighborhood as the new year approached.
Davian Guy-Lynch, currently with no fixed address, now faces nine charges, a testament to the severity of the alleged crimes. These include multiple counts of sexual assault, assault, forcible confinement, criminal harassment, break and enter, and robbery.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Guy-Lynch is also accused of three violations of his existing probation order. This raises critical questions about the effectiveness of the supervision he was under and the safety of the community.
He made a brief court appearance on New Year’s Day, but the investigation is far from over. Authorities are deeply concerned that additional victims may exist, still grappling with the aftermath of these alleged attacks.
Police are urging anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward. The hope is to identify any further victims and ensure the alleged perpetrator is held fully accountable for his actions.
