Herridge, a seasoned journalist formerly with Fox News and later CBS News, found herself at the center of a controversy after relentlessly pursuing the truth behind the laptop’s contents. Her dedication ultimately led to her dismissal from CBS News in 2024.
It began in 2019 when Hunter Biden, appearing disoriented, brought three damaged MacBook Pro laptops to John Paul Mac Isaac’s computer repair shop in Delaware. One was beyond saving, immediately returned to Biden. Another required a keyboard, loaned to Biden but never retrieved.
The third laptop remained with Mac Isaac for repair, a silent promise of return hanging in the air. Weeks turned into months, and Hunter Biden never reappeared to claim his property. After repeated, unsuccessful attempts to contact Biden, Mac Isaac legally took ownership of the abandoned device.
The contents of that laptop would soon ignite a firestorm. In October 2020, The New York Post published emails recovered from the laptop, exposing Hunter Biden’s dealings with foreign entities and suggesting a role as an intermediary for his father, Joe Biden, in international business ventures.
Herridge revealed that CBS News delayed airing the story until after the 2022 midterm elections, despite having the information available much earlier. She argued strongly against this delay, believing a story should be published when ready, not dictated by political timing.
Following the eventual airing of the laptop story – two years after the initial revelations – Herridge claims CBS executives actively blocked further reporting, including investigations directly involving Joe Biden. These decisions, she asserts, were made despite objections from CBS CEO George Cheeks.
The suppression, according to Herridge, wasn’t a matter of journalistic caution, but a deliberate attempt to shield a political figure from potentially damaging information. Her experience highlights a troubling conflict between the pursuit of truth and the pressures of a politically charged media landscape.
