LEICESTER STAR AXED: Career OVER?!

Woyo Coulibaly’s journey is facing another unexpected turn. The right-back, barely six months into a loan spell with Sassuolo, may be heading back to England sooner than anticipated, with Leicester City reportedly considering an early termination of the agreement.

The move to Italy, intended to reignite a promising career, hasn’t unfolded as hoped. Despite interest from other clubs, Coulibaly chose Sassuolo seeking consistent playing time, but has instead found himself largely on the periphery of the team.

All parties are now weighing a “premature resolution” to the loan, a stark admission that the current situation isn’t working. However, Leicester City holds the key, needing to approve any return before it can happen.

Complicating matters further, reports suggest Coulibaly isn’t currently in the plans of Leicester’s manager for the remainder of the season. This creates a pressing need for the club to find another destination for the player, should the loan be cut short, to avoid him being relegated to the reserves.

Coulibaly’s story began with significant promise. He rose through the esteemed Le Havre academy, quickly establishing himself as a versatile player capable of excelling in multiple positions.

His breakthrough came at Parma, where he became a key figure, making over 80 appearances and contributing to the club’s stability in Italian football. This impressive form earned him a £3 million transfer to Leicester City in January 2025.

The transition to the Premier League proved challenging. Arriving under Ruud van Nistelrooy, Coulibaly struggled to adapt to the relentless pace and physicality of the English game.

Established players like James Justin and Ricardo Pereira remained firmly in control of the right-back position, limiting Coulibaly to just one start during his initial six-month spell with the Foxes. The lack of opportunity ultimately prompted the search for playing time elsewhere.

Now, with the Italian loan failing to deliver the desired impact, Coulibaly finds himself at a crossroads. Leicester City faces a decision: retain him, seek another loan, or potentially pursue a permanent sale, all hinging on the outcome of the current loan agreement.
