ASUS & XREAL UNLEASH AR GAMING: Reality Just BROKE.

ASUS & XREAL UNLEASH AR GAMING: Reality Just BROKE.

Wearable displays, long envisioned as the next big thing, have quietly arrived. While not yet a mainstream phenomenon, a dedicated core of users already embraces this technology, and XReal has become a name synonymous with innovation in the space. Now, Asus has joined forces with XReal to create a new generation of immersive viewing.

Introducing the Asus ROG XReal R1 AR – a mouthful, perhaps, but a testament to its ambition. These glasses build upon the foundation of XReal’s existing designs, notably the XReal One Pro, but are specifically engineered for the demands of gaming. Imagine a portable cinema, capable of unfolding a massive 171-inch equivalent display wherever you go.

The key differentiator isn’t just size, but speed. The R1 AR boasts a blistering 240Hz refresh rate on its miniature displays, rivaling dedicated gaming monitors and high-end OLED televisions. While the resolution sits at 1080p – a compromise given the virtual screen size – the unique form factor redefines the viewing experience.

Beyond the core display technology, the R1 AR incorporates a suite of premium features. A 57-degree viewing area, innovative anchor and follow modes for positioning the digital window, and open-ear speakers tuned by Bose deliver a truly immersive experience. The electrochromic lenses automatically adjust to ambient light, darkening when focused on the screen and lightening when looking away.

Connectivity is streamlined through the ROG Control Dock, expanding beyond standard USB-C to include HDMI and DisplayPort. This allows seamless integration with a wide range of devices, from desktop PCs and consoles to the ROG Ally handheld, complete with customized touchscreen controls. Compatibility extends to many USB-C enabled laptops, phones, and tablets.

Naturally, a gaming-focused device wouldn’t be complete without a touch of flair. The R1 AR features integrated LED lighting, signaling its purpose with a vibrant glow. While existing XReal designs accommodate prescription lenses, details regarding compatibility with the R1 AR are forthcoming.

The Asus ROG XReal R1 AR is slated for release in the first half of 2026, though pricing remains undisclosed. For context, the comparable Xreal One Pro, utilizing the same core X1 chip, currently retails for around $650, excluding the ROG dock.
