PREDATOR LOOSE: Parolee Hunted Student – Police Reveal SHOCKING Motive!

PREDATOR LOOSE: Parolee Hunted Student – Police Reveal SHOCKING Motive!

The tranquility of the University of Toronto Scarborough campus shattered just days before Christmas, leaving a community reeling from a senseless act of violence. Shivank Avasthi, a 20-year-old student with a future brimming with promise, was fatally shot while walking along the well-traveled Valley Trail.

Investigators believe the shooting wasn't a random outburst, but a chillingly deliberate act. Homicide Det.-Sgt. Stacey McCabe stated that evidence suggests the accused arrived on campus with a single, terrifying purpose: to kill.

The victim and his attacker were strangers, raising the horrifying possibility that Avasthi was chosen at random. Police have yet to uncover a motive, deepening the mystery and amplifying the sense of fear.

Babatunde Afuwape, 28, a Toronto man who was on parole for firearms convictions, is charged with first-degree murder for the shooting of student Shivank Avasthi, 20, on a University of Toronto Scarborough Campus trail on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025.

The accused, 28-year-old Babatunde Afuwape, was apprehended five days after the shooting while being investigated for a parole violation. He now faces a charge of first-degree murder, bringing a measure of relief to a shaken community.

Afuwape’s past reveals prior convictions for firearms offenses, placing him on parole at the time of the shooting. A weapon has been recovered, but the full scope of his intentions remains unclear.

Detectives believe Afuwape spent approximately an hour on campus before the shooting, potentially observing and selecting his target. They are urgently seeking anyone who may have seen or interacted with him that day to come forward with information.

Shivank Avasthi, 20, a third-year student, was gunned down on a busy University of Toronto Scarborough Campus trail on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025.

The loss of Shivank Avasthi is a devastating blow, described by investigators as a young man with “his whole life ahead of him.” The investigation continues, seeking to understand the darkness that led to this tragedy and to provide answers to a grieving community.

Police are determined to reassure students, staff, and residents that the person responsible is in custody, but the questions surrounding this calculated act of violence linger, casting a long shadow over the campus and beyond.

A man believed to be Babatunde Afuwape, 28, was on University of Toronto Scarborough Campus for about an hour before he allegedly killed student Shivank Avasthi, 20, on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025.
