A heated exchange unfolded on national television as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey vehemently challenged the Department of Homeland Security’s account of a fatal shooting involving a vehicle and an ICE agent.
The incident occurred during an anti-ICE protest in a Minneapolis neighborhood, where Renee Nicole Good allegedly used her car to obstruct an ongoing operation. Authorities state Good attempted to strike agents with her vehicle, prompting an officer to fire in what they described as a defensive act.
Department of Homeland Security officials went further, labeling Good’s actions as “domestic terrorism” and defending the agent’s use of force. This characterization immediately drew sharp criticism from Mayor Frey.
During a press conference following the shooting, Frey dismissed the “domestic terrorism” claim with a blunt, expletive-laden rebuke. He repeated this forceful denial during an interview with Anderson Cooper, escalating the conflict.
Frey presented a contrasting narrative, asserting that Good was attempting a three-point turn when she was shot, and that her actions were not intended to harm anyone. This claim directly contradicts available footage which appears to show her vehicle moving toward an agent.
The mayor passionately argued that the circumstances did not justify the use of deadly force, repeatedly using strong language to condemn the Department of Homeland Security’s portrayal of events. He insisted Good was simply trying to leave the area.
Frey leveled accusations against ICE, claiming the agency is “terrorizing communities and ripping families apart,” framing their actions as harmful and aggressive. He positioned the agents as villains, despite their stated mission of arresting individuals deemed criminals.
