HERO'S WELCOME: PM Honors Man Who ENDED Bondi Beach Terror!

HERO'S WELCOME: PM Honors Man Who ENDED Bondi Beach Terror!

In a powerful display of courage, Ahmed Al-Ahmed, a Syrian-born Australian Muslim, found himself thrust into the heart of a terrifying tragedy during a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach. When a lone attacker unleashed violence upon a joyous gathering, Al-Ahmed didn’t hesitate – he intervened, disarming the assailant and potentially saving countless lives.

The attack, which claimed at least fifteen lives, unfolded during a festive Hanukkah event hosted by the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. As details emerged, a video of Al-Ahmed’s heroic confrontation went viral, showcasing his bravery in the face of unimaginable danger. He was wounded in the struggle, sustaining gunshot injuries that still require him to wear a sling weeks later.

News of Al-Ahmed’s selfless act resonated globally, prompting an outpouring of support. A fundraising campaign quickly amassed over $2.6 million from nearly 45,000 donors, a testament to the profound impact of his heroism. The campaign description highlighted his instinctive bravery, emphasizing his disregard for his own safety while protecting others.

Recently, Rabbi Yehoram Ulman of Sydney, who tragically lost his son-in-law in the attack, brought Al-Ahmed to the United States. Their mission: to share a message of unity and resilience, and to honor the memory of those who didn’t survive the horrific event. Ulman felt compelled to amplify Al-Ahmed’s story, recognizing the importance of highlighting acts of courage in the face of hate.

Their journey included a visit to the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch in Queens, New York, the final resting place of Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, a revered leader of the Chabad movement. This site, often visited by prominent figures, served as a poignant backdrop for reflection and remembrance.

House Speaker Mike Johnson recently met with Al-Ahmed at the Capitol, publicly acknowledging his extraordinary bravery. The meeting, alongside Rabbi Levi Shemtov, underscored a shared commitment to confronting antisemitism and supporting those affected by the Bondi Beach tragedy. Johnson emphasized the need to defeat hatred wherever it exists.

At a gala honoring Al-Ahmed, he received a special award – a Hanukkah menorah encased in glass, bearing the inscription “Light Will Win.” Presented by billionaire Bill Ackman, the award symbolized the enduring power of hope and resilience in the face of darkness. The event served as a powerful tribute to Al-Ahmed’s courage and the spirit of the community he defended.

Rabbi Ulman, who presided over the funerals of many victims from his community, has emerged as a leading voice for Australian Jews in the wake of the tragedy. His presence alongside Al-Ahmed in the U.S. signifies a powerful alliance, demonstrating the potential for unity and understanding even amidst profound loss and grief.
