MILLION RIDERS CAN'T BE WRONG: EDSA Busway EXPLODES!

MILLION RIDERS CAN'T BE WRONG: EDSA Busway EXPLODES!

Metro Manila’s vital EDSA Busway is poised for a record-breaking year, anticipating over 70 million passengers carried along its dedicated lanes. This surge isn’t just about numbers; it reflects a tangible improvement in the daily commute for countless Filipinos.

The busway has already demonstrated remarkable growth, serving 66.67 million passengers in the previous year – a significant increase of nearly 6%. Officials are confident this upward trend will continue, projecting a 5% to 10% rise in ridership thanks to ongoing improvements and strategic new policies.

April witnessed a single-day peak of 321,186 passengers, a clear indication of the busway’s critical role in the city’s transportation network. December consistently emerges as the busiest month, handling an impressive 6.53 million travelers.

Since its inception in June 2020, the EDSA Busway has become a lifeline for commuters, already facilitating over 341.31 million journeys. This success is fueling a commitment to further modernization and rehabilitation efforts.

Expansion is already underway, with construction slated to begin in the first quarter on three crucial new stations. These additions – strategically located in Cubao, Magallanes, and the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) – will significantly enhance accessibility and capacity.

The project, awarded late last year with a budget of over 251 million, promises to deliver these vital stations by the fourth quarter. These aren’t just stations; they represent a direct investment in a smoother, more efficient commute for thousands.

Currently, the EDSA Busway boasts 21 stations operating 24/7, providing a consistent and reliable service along the city’s main thoroughfare. This continuous operation is a testament to the system’s dedication to serving the public.

Alongside the busway improvements, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is also undergoing significant upgrades. Last year alone, PITX saw over 60.28 million passengers pass through its doors – a substantial increase of nearly 17%.

December proved particularly busy at PITX, with 5.69 million passengers traveling during the month, including a surge of 3.43 million during the Christmas and New Year holidays. Authorities are proactively preparing for continued high volumes.

Officials assure commuters that adequate bus supplies, streamlined operations, and enhanced security measures are in place to ensure a positive travel experience. The focus remains firmly on providing a safe, efficient, and reliable transportation option for all.
