It began with a simple belief – that young women athletes deserved a platform to shine. Nine years ago, a vision took root, fueled by a passion for the sport of volleyball and a desire to empower high school players.
What started as a small gathering of teams has exploded into a nationwide phenomenon. The league now encompasses an incredible 500 schools, all vying for a chance to compete on the biggest stage.
The culmination of this intense competition is the National Finals and Invitationals, set to unfold from January 17th to 24th. The Ynares Center in Pasig will become the epicenter of youthful energy and fierce determination.
This year’s competition has whittled down to ten elite teams, forged through grueling regional tournaments. Among them are powerhouse contenders like Bacolod Tay Tung, aiming for an unprecedented three-peat, and National University, the league’s inaugural champion.
Joining these titans are University of San Jose-Recoletos Cebu, Linao National High School (Leyte), Immaculate Conception Academy (Cavite), Iligan City National High, La Salle-Lipa, Davao City National High, Holy Trinity College (General Santos), and California Academy (Northern Luzon).
The stakes are high, with the winning school receiving a substantial prize of P100,000, and the runner-up taking home P50,000. These funds are earmarked to bolster the schools’ athletic programs, investing in the future of their athletes.
But the opportunity extends far beyond the championship title and prize money. The league recognizes exceptional talent, offering a unique pathway to professional development.
The top 21 players, selected from the 500 participating teams, will be rewarded with an all-expenses-paid trip to Manila. There, they will participate in an intensive two-week training camp.
This isn’t just any training camp; it’s a chance to learn from the best. These rising stars will have the invaluable opportunity to practice alongside players from the Premier Volleyball League’s Creamline and Choco Mucho, gaining insights from their idols.
For these young athletes, it’s a dream come true – a chance to hone their skills, gain exposure, and potentially launch their careers on a national stage. The league isn’t just about volleyball; it’s about nurturing potential and building a brighter future.
