ROTTEN REVEALED: The Masked Singer SHOCKER You Won't Believe!

ROTTEN REVEALED: The Masked Singer SHOCKER You Won't Believe!

The elaborate costumes ofThe Masked Singerare known for being extravagant, but for John Lydon, the punk icon behind the Yak mask, the experience was surprisingly painful. The sheer weight and design of the costume caused genuine physical strain, a hidden cost beneath the vibrant sequins and massive horns.

Lydon, famously known as Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols, admitted the costume “weighs as much” as a real yak. The production team actually braced for complaints about the Yak’s over-the-top design, fearing a celebrity might balk at its boldness, but Lydon embraced the challenge with characteristic defiance.

Costume designer Tim Simpson revealed the Yak was uniquely challenging to construct. It wasn’t just about aesthetics; a complex internal structure mounted on the performer’s shoulders, combined with a gimbal harness, created significant weight. Simpson even tested the costume himself, finding it surprisingly manageable, but acknowledging the strain it would place on someone unaccustomed to such elaborate wear.

The physical toll was real. Lydon confessed to “putting out” his shoulder and back while performing as Yak, struggling even to sing comfortably within the restrictive outfit. The heat and weight combined to create a truly demanding experience.

Despite the discomfort, Lydon’s motivation was refreshingly candid: “Fun, firstly. But mostly the money.” The earnings allowed him to fund a month-long recording session in Portugal and a well-deserved holiday. He wasn’t concerned with the potential criticism from “serious musicians.”

“I know things like this are viewed negatively… well, eff the lot of them, I’m up for a laugh,” he declared, emphasizing the show’s appeal to families. He’d even attempted to disguise his voice from familiar faces on the panel, Jonathan Ross and Freddie Flintoff, knowing they’d recognize him.

Unmasked after a performance of Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical,” Lydon became the third celebrity revealed in the series. The competition continues with a remaining cast of intriguing characters – Arctic Fox, Can of Worms, Conkers, Gargoyle, Monkey Business, Moth, Red Panda, Sloth, and Toastie – each concealing a famous identity.
