A new contender has entered the race to lead Florida. Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins officially launched his campaign for governor, stepping into a growing field of Republican hopefuls eager to succeed Governor Ron DeSantis.
Collins framed his candidacy around a lifetime of service and decisive leadership. He emphasized over two decades in the United States military, primarily as a Green Beret, where he learned the weight of accountability and the importance of selfless dedication.
“Leadership is forged under pressure, not in soundbites,” Collins declared, positioning himself as a results-oriented leader focused on tangible outcomes rather than political posturing. He views public office as a solemn trust, a responsibility earned through service.
Governor DeSantis, unable to seek a third term in 2026, previously appointed Collins as his lieutenant governor, playfully dubbing him “the Chuck Norris of Florida politics.” Prior to this role, Collins served as a state senator, gaining experience within the state’s legislative process.
The Republican primary is already shaping up to be competitive. Collins will face challenges from U.S. Representative Byron Donalds, who has secured an endorsement from former President Trump, alongside former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner and James Fishback.
Collins acknowledged his collaboration with the current governor, highlighting their shared commitment to conservative principles. He emphasized their work together to deliver on promises and strengthen the state, framing his campaign as a continuation of that progress.
Looking ahead, Collins signaled a willingness to collaborate closely with President Trump. He pledged to be a “strong partner” in advancing policies focused on border security, economic strength, and an “America First” agenda prioritizing families and freedom.
Collins concluded with a call for decisive action, asserting his readiness to lead through challenging times. He believes the moment demands courage and a commitment to doing what is right, even when difficult, and he is prepared to “Keep Florida Strong.”
