Before dawn on Tuesday, a wave of law enforcement descended upon the city of Lima, Ohio, signaling the culmination of a meticulously planned operation. Dubbed “Operation New Beginnings,” the coordinated effort aimed to dismantle a criminal network deeply entrenched in the community.
The operation, a multi-agency undertaking, resulted in the arrest of four individuals: Jai’Quavius Carter, Cantrell Island, De’Jorr Gibson, and Jordan Davis. Authorities allege they were involved in a pattern of corrupt activity, fueling illegal drug and gambling operations within the city limits.
Just before 6:00 AM, residents witnessed a significant law enforcement presence as teams executed nine search warrants across a wide range of locations. Chief Curtis Hile of the Lima Police Department confirmed the extensive operation was designed to send a clear message.
The targeted addresses – 703 and 707 Faurot Avenue, 332 and 332 ½ South Metcalf Street, 403 South Metcalf Street, 1020 Faurot Avenue, 521 East Fourth Street, 1513 West Wayne Street, and 1515 Harding Highway – were systematically searched for evidence of criminal activity.
“This operation was about stopping ongoing harm and restoring a sense of safety,” stated Chief Hile. “We’ve removed individuals and operations that were actively undermining our community.” The goal wasn’t simply arrests, but a fundamental shift in the city’s safety landscape.
The impact of “Operation New Beginnings” was immediately visible with the closure of the Jackpot Zone, located on Harding Highway, following enforcement action related to illegal gambling. Authorities also seized three vehicles and recovered two semi-automatic handguns.
A diverse coalition of law enforcement agencies contributed to the success of the operation, including the Lima Police Department’s Investigations Division, Uniformed Officers, SWAT, and PACE Unit. Support also came from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Ohio Casino Control Commission, and the Ohio Narcotics Intelligence Center.
While four arrests have been made, officials emphasize that this is not the end. Further arrests and enforcement actions are anticipated as investigators continue to analyze seized financial records and evidence. Public safety remains the paramount concern.
The operation represents a determined effort to disrupt the flow of illegal drugs, curb firearm-related crime, and dismantle illicit gambling rings. It’s a clear signal that authorities are committed to reclaiming the streets and restoring peace of mind for Lima’s residents.
