President Marcos anticipates a surge in data center investment following productive talks with DAMAC Digital, a UAE-based firm poised to significantly expand its presence in Southeast Asia’s rapidly evolving digital landscape.
DAMAC Digital is currently evaluating plans for a massive data center in Laguna, Philippines – a project envisioned to become the nation’s largest and a cornerstone for future growth in cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The President assured DAMAC Digital executives that his administration will prioritize support for the sector, underscoring a commitment to attracting investment into high-value, technology-focused industries.
He expressed enthusiasm for the potential investment, specifically highlighting the planned data center’s impressive 250-megawatt capacity, a scale that would firmly establish the Philippines as a rising data hub within the region.
This development arrives as demand for data centers is projected to escalate dramatically, fueled by the expanding adoption of digital payments, the growth of e-commerce, and the increasing integration of artificial intelligence throughout the region.
DAMAC Digital, backed by the substantial resources of the Dubai-based DAMAC Group, has already pledged over $3 billion to Southeast Asia, aiming to achieve 250 MW of operational capacity by 2026.
A Philippine project would become a key component of DAMAC Digital’s expanding global network, complementing existing facilities in the US, the Middle East, Europe, and other parts of Asia.
These discussions occurred during President Marcos’ visit to Abu Dhabi, coinciding with the signing of the Philippines’ first Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the UAE – a landmark trade deal.
Officials believe this agreement, coupled with potential investments like DAMAC’s, will attract crucial foreign capital into strategic sectors and accelerate the nation’s economic shift towards digital industries.
Originally established as EDGNEX Data Centres in 2021 and later rebranded, DAMAC Digital specializes in the development, construction, and management of data centers designed to support a wide range of modern digital needs, from hyperscale wholesale to AI-driven applications, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and global connectivity.
