ICE DEMANDS ANSWERS: Minnesota Cover-Up EXPOSED!

ICE DEMANDS ANSWERS: Minnesota Cover-Up EXPOSED!

A sharp conflict erupted between the Trump administration and Minnesota officials, escalating into accusations of actively resisting federal immigration enforcement. The dispute began with claims from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regarding the handling of individuals in state custody.

DHS publicly called on Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey to comply with federal immigration detainers – requests to hold individuals suspected of immigration violations until ICE agents can take them into custody. The agency asserted that Minnesota was holding over 1,300 such individuals and had released nearly 470 with criminal records into Minneapolis.

Governor Walz’s office swiftly and vehemently denied these claims, labeling them “categorically false.” The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) echoed this denial, adding that the DHS assertions were “unsupported by facts and deeply irresponsible.”

The DOC presented data sharply contrasting with DHS figures, stating that Minnesota’s total prison population was approximately 8,000, with only 207 inmates (less than 3%) being non-U.S. citizens. They reported releasing 84 individuals with ICE detainers in 2023, but emphasized that ICE was notified in advance of each release and given opportunities for transfer.

The DOC further criticized DHS for failing to specify the sources or timeframes used to generate their numbers, stating they did not align with state records. This lack of transparency fueled the growing tension between state and federal authorities.

Despite the state’s rebuttal, the Trump administration, through DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, doubled down on its accusations. McLaughlin stated Walz and Frey were “actively encouraging an organized resistance to ICE and federal law enforcement officers,” reiterating the number of released individuals.

This clash occurred against a backdrop of existing friction. Following a fatal shooting involving federal ICE officers in Minneapolis earlier in the month, Mayor Frey reportedly told ICE officials to leave the city, and Governor Walz urged the Trump administration to “leave Minnesota alone.”

Minneapolis had also implemented policies designed to protect undocumented immigrants, including an executive order restricting federal agents’ use of city property and a bolstered separation ordinance. Minnesota’s Attorney General had also issued an opinion stating state law prohibited holding individuals solely on ICE detainers.

The potential consequences of releasing individuals with ICE detainers were highlighted by a December incident in Northern Virginia, where an undocumented immigrant released from custody subsequently committed a homicide. This event underscored the gravity of the debate.

Adding another layer to the situation, reports surfaced that federal prosecutors were investigating both Walz and Frey for allegedly obstructing law enforcement efforts. While the investigation was described as being in its early stages, it signaled a potential escalation of the conflict beyond political rhetoric.
