A surge of clean energy is now flowing into the Philippines’ power grid, thanks to the activation of a substantial solar farm in San Manuel, Pangasinan. The P2.8-billion facility represents a significant step in bolstering the nation’s renewable energy capacity and reducing reliance on traditional power sources.
This 60-megawatt solar farm, comprised of over 108,000 individual panels, didn’t appear overnight. It’s the result of strategic expansion following the acquisition of Sinocalan Solar Power Corp. in 2022, marking a clear commitment to a greener future.
The sheer scale of the project is impressive. Annually, the San Manuel Solar farm is projected to generate approximately 94 gigawatt-hours of electricity – enough to power roughly 55,000 Filipino homes. This represents a tangible impact on communities and a reduction in carbon emissions.
Engineered for efficiency, the facility utilizes ground-mounted photovoltaic technology. A dedicated 1.8-kilometer transmission line directly connects the farm to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, ensuring a stable and reliable flow of renewable energy.
The potential doesn’t stop here. The San Manuel Solar farm is designed with future growth in mind, possessing the capacity to expand its output up to 100 megawatts. This scalability positions it as a key player in the Philippines’ evolving energy landscape.
This project is more than just megawatts and panels; it’s a cornerstone of a larger strategy. ACEN’s expanding renewables portfolio directly supports the government’s ambitious targets for clean energy adoption across the country.
The company’s vision extends beyond simply generating power. They are focused on fostering a “just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition” for all Filipinos, recognizing the importance of equitable access to clean energy resources.
Currently, ACEN manages an impressive 7 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, spanning operational projects, those under construction, and those secured through agreements. This portfolio extends far beyond the Philippines, encompassing assets in Australia, Vietnam, India, and the United States.
A pivotal moment arrived late last year when ACEN completed the divestment of all its conventional power assets. This bold move signifies a complete commitment to renewable energy, solidifying its position as a leader in the clean energy revolution.
