TRUMP TARGETED: Sled Fest ERUPTS in Fiery Protest!

A winter arts tradition in Minneapolis transformed into a vibrant, pointed protest, as sleds became canvases for dissent. The annual Art Sled Rally, usually a playful community event, took on a new urgency in Powderhorn Park, a neighborhood deeply affected by recent events and simmering with frustration towards ICE and the previous administration.

The protest wasn’t delivered through speeches or signs, but through spectacle and satire. Participants crafted elaborate sleds, turning a snowy hill into a stage for political commentary. The atmosphere was charged with dark humor and a determination to be seen and heard.

One particularly striking display involved participants dressed as bowling pins, each bearing the name of a controversial world leader – Trump, Jong Un, Putin, Jinping, and Khamenei. A massive bowling ball sled was then unleashed, crashing down the hill and symbolically flattening the “pins” in a matter of seconds.

The rally itself was a whirlwind of activity, lasting only a couple of hours. Sleds were launched one by one, each run captured by a crowd eager to document the creative resistance. Crashes and spins were as much a part of the show as the successful runs.

Many sleds directly targeted ICE, leaving no room for misinterpretation. One resembled a giant spray bottle labeled “DE-ICER: ICE OUT OF MN.” Another, designed as a takeaway coffee cup, boldly declared, “I’ll take my horchata warm cuz f* ICE,” a message both humorous and fiercely direct.

Surreal imagery abounded, adding another layer to the protest. A chicken-shaped sled, complete with a whistle, slid down the hill proclaiming “ICE OUT MSP.” This blend of silliness and pointed messaging proved instantly shareable, amplifying the rally’s impact.

Beyond the novelty, the sleds represented something deeper. They were individual works of art, imbued with meaning by their creators and resonating with the community. Each sled told a story, reflecting personal experiences and collective anxieties.

The location itself held significance. Powderhorn Park, and Minneapolis as a whole, has frequently been portrayed in the news through a lens of conflict and hardship. This rally offered a different narrative, showcasing the community’s resilience and ability to channel anger into creative expression.

“Minneapolis often shows up in a very specific way in the news, and we’re so much more than that,” explained a local resident who documented the event. “This felt like a glimpse into what life is actually like here, and how wonderful the people are.” The rally was a powerful statement, reclaiming the city’s narrative and demonstrating the strength of its community spirit.
