A quiet neighbourhood near Disney World became the scene of unimaginable tragedy this weekend, as three tourists were fatally shot while stranded with car trouble.
The suspect, 29-year-old Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, is now in custody, but his history reveals a deeply unsettling pattern of violence and a prior brush with the legal system that allowed him to remain free.
In 2021, Bojeh opened fire in a Wawa gas station parking lot, targeting both individuals and passing vehicles. The shocking incident resulted in charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery.
Remarkably, Bojeh was found not guilty by reason of insanity in that case, a verdict that has now ignited fierce criticism of the handling of his initial legal proceedings.
Court records reveal a history of arrests beyond the 2021 shooting, including felony drug possession and resisting an officer – a clear indication of repeated encounters with law enforcement.
Following Saturday’s killings, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier publicly questioned the previous prosecution, suggesting a lack of resistance to Bojeh’s insanity plea allowed a dangerous individual back onto the streets.
Osceola County Sheriff Christopher Blackmon described Bojeh as a known quantity to his deputies, a “frequent flyer” who consistently posed a threat to the surrounding community.
The victims have been identified as Robert Luis Kraft, 69, of Michigan, his brother Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, of Ohio, and their friend James Puchan, 68, also from Ohio. They were simply seeking assistance when their lives were brutally cut short.
Sheriff Blackmon emphasized the senseless nature of the crime, stating there was absolutely no conflict between Bojeh and the victims; the shooting was entirely random and cold-blooded.
Deputies arrived at the scene shortly after noon on Saturday, discovering the three men dead outside a rental home, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Bojeh was found inside his residence and taken into custody without incident.
He is currently being held at the Osceola County Jail, awaiting further legal proceedings, with no bond set.
The tragedy has left the community reeling, grappling with the horrifying reality that a known threat was allowed to remain free, ultimately leading to the devastating loss of three innocent lives.
