A significant shift is underway in the European online gambling landscape as Tipico, a leading German sports betting and gaming operator, joins the ranks of the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA).
The EGBA, based in Brussels, serves as the unified voice for established, licensed, and regulated online gambling companies operating within the European Union. Its core mission is to foster a collaborative environment with both national and EU authorities, striving for a consistently well-regulated market.
Tipico’s inclusion is expected to dramatically bolster the EGBA’s influence, particularly within Germany and the broader German-speaking regions, providing a stronger platform for advocacy and industry standards.
The company will actively participate in EGBA’s crucial working groups, contributing to initiatives centered around responsible advertising practices, robust anti-money laundering measures, and the promotion of safer gambling environments.
Jochen Weiner, Tipico’s director of public policy, emphasized the company’s dedication to player protection and regulatory compliance, stating their eagerness to share their expertise with the EGBA. He highlighted the partnership as a natural extension of their commitment to combating the illegal online gambling market in Europe.
This announcement follows closely on the heels of the EGBA’s report on its fifth annual European Safer Gambling Week, held in November, which saw record-breaking participation and engagement across the continent.
The Safer Gambling Week initiative unites the European gambling sector in a focused effort to raise awareness and promote responsible gaming habits, demonstrating a collective commitment to player well-being.
This year’s event witnessed a remarkable 14% increase in partners, reaching a total of 221 active participants, alongside direct involvement from seven regulatory authorities through social media campaigns and speaking engagements.
Maarten Haijer, secretary general of the EGBA, expressed his enthusiasm for welcoming Tipico, recognizing the operator’s strong reputation and valuable experience. He anticipates a fruitful collaboration in advancing a sustainable and well-regulated gambling sector throughout Europe.
The addition of Tipico signals a renewed momentum for the EGBA as it embarks on 2026, poised to further its mission of establishing a secure and responsible online gambling environment for players across Europe.
