DEMOCRATS EMBRACE 9/11 TRUTHER?! You Won't Believe Who They're Working With.

DEMOCRATS EMBRACE 9/11 TRUTHER?! You Won't Believe Who They're Working With.

A rising political candidate in Michigan is forging an alliance with a controversial online figure whose past statements have ignited fierce debate. This partnership is unfolding as the candidate navigates a competitive Democratic primary, raising questions about the boundaries of political association.

The candidate, Abdul El-Sayed, is scheduled to appear with streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker at Michigan State University. Piker, known for his outspoken views and large online following, has previously made statements that many find deeply offensive, including a remark suggesting the United States “deserved” the 9/11 attacks.

The event, set for April 7th, will also include Representative Summer Lee of Pennsylvania, another prominent progressive voice. Organizers promise “special guests” will join them, hinting at a broader effort to rally support among progressive voters.

El-Sayed’s campaign centers on issues of economic fairness, advocating for policies like universal healthcare, affordable housing, and tuition-free college. These positions align with those championed by other progressive leaders he’s shared platforms with, including Senator Bernie Sanders and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib.

Sanders himself publicly praised Piker last year, acknowledging his reach to a demographic increasingly disillusioned with traditional media. This endorsement underscores the growing influence of online personalities in shaping political discourse.

While El-Sayed avoids traditional political labels, his association with Piker firmly places him within the most progressive wing of the Democratic Party. His campaign has declined to comment on the rationale behind inviting Piker to the event.

Piker gained prominence in 2018 through his blend of political commentary and gaming streams. However, his rise has been consistently shadowed by controversy. Beyond the 9/11 comments, he has described Hamas as the “lesser of two evils” and expressed a lack of support for both the United States and Israel.

He also drew criticism for his reaction to an incident involving Representative Dan Crenshaw, a veteran who lost an eye in Afghanistan, praising those who injured him. These statements, while defended by some as provocative rhetoric, have alienated many and fueled accusations of extremism.

Despite the backlash, Piker has cultivated relationships with several high-profile Democrats. He’s collaborated with Ocasio-Cortez on voter outreach videos, interviewed Sanders during his “Fight Oligarchy Tour,” and frequently appeared with Representative Ro Khanna.

Most recently, Piker actively campaigned for Zohran Mamdani, a self-described socialist who achieved a surprising victory in New York City politics. This pattern of engagement suggests a deliberate strategy to mobilize progressive voters.

The upcoming rally in Michigan aims to “re-energize voters” ahead of the 2026 midterm elections, focusing on issues like economic justice and student debt relief. The event signals a clear attempt to galvanize support among young voters and those disillusioned with the status quo.

Michigan’s Senate primary is scheduled for August 4th, setting the stage for a potentially pivotal contest that will test the appeal of progressive policies and the impact of controversial alliances.
