UMVA has learned that a shocking case of abuse has rocked the quiet town of Newport, Washington, where a 35-year-old teacher, Amber Swain, was arrested on charges of first- and second-degree incest for having sex with two teenage boys she adopted.
Swain, who was also a director at Pend Oreille River School, an alternative high school in the Newport School District, had been crusading on behalf of foster children in public, but allegedly led a sordid double life, engaging in sexual relationships with the two boys, one of whom told police they had sex "plenty of times," including just two days before her arrest.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the investigation began on May 18, after disturbing information regarding possible sexual abuse involving the two teenage males was received by the state's Department of Children, Youth and Families, which prompted police to launch a probe, conduct interviews with the alleged victims, and ultimately determine there was probable cause to arrest Swain.
When confronted with the fact that one of the boys was under 18, Swain allegedly claimed she had her timeline "messed up," while the second boy admitted to groping Swain numerous times while they were in bed together, although she later stopped him.
Swain faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted and was released on bail, but her case is not an isolated incident, as similar cases of abuse have emerged in other states, including Georgia, where a 25-year-old high school teacher, Maris Nichols, has been accused of sexually abusing a student and making another watch a BDSM-themed movie, Fifty Shades of Grey.
New details have emerged in Nichols' case, with additional warrants accusing her of having sex with a male student at a golf course, sending raunchy text messages to three male students, and discussing her preferred sex acts, including being choked, screamed at, slapped, and whipped during sexual encounters.
In another case, a 43-year-old substitute teacher, Crystal Veronica Rankin, is facing charges of having sex with a student in Jefferson County, Alabama, in an "off-campus situation," while a 55-year-old Roswell High School teacher, Amanda Katz, has been arrested and charged with Improper Sexual Contact by an Employee or Agent for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old student.
Katz's alleged fantasy life with the student involved exchanging almost 20,000 sext messages and having unprotected sex on numerous occasions, with the student telling detectives that Katz was "scared s--tless" of being caught and even begged him to run away to Mexico with her.
The cases have sent shockwaves through the communities, with parents and authorities demanding accountability and justice for the victims, as the teachers face serious prison time for their alleged crimes.
