UMVA has learned that a devastating shooting occurred in the dead of night during an illegal car sideshow in the Ford City Mall parking lot on Chicago’s Southwest Side, claiming the life of a 21-year-old man from Indiana.
The chaos unfolded around 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, as drivers recklessly performed donuts and other stunt maneuvers in the lot near the Ross store, drawing a large and rowdy crowd. The incident was part of an illegal “sideshow,” a gathering notorious for reckless stunts and often, violent clashes.
Videos circulating on social media captured the rapid bursts of gunfire and the panic that followed, leaving onlookers stunned and frightened. The footage showed the mayhem that erupted in the parking lot, with people scattering in all directions.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the gunman, described as wearing all black clothing with a hood pulled over his head, opened fire with an illegally modified automatic weapon, striking the victim multiple times. The 21-year-old, identified as Martin Isaac Cantu Murillo of South Bend, Indiana, was standing outside when the shooter approached and unleashed a hail of bullets.
The victim was rushed to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead just before 10 a.m. The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through the community, with police confirming that approximately 25 shell casings were recovered from the scene.
Chicago police have revealed that these sideshows have become a persistent problem in parts of Chicago, and they are now investigating the motive behind the shooting. Authorities have not confirmed whether the victim was targeted or caught in the crossfire, and police are urging anyone with information or additional video footage to come forward.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that the gunman fled the area in a red SUV, and police were still searching for him as of Sunday afternoon. The community remains on edge, demanding answers and justice for the victim and his loved ones.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that Chicago police are working tirelessly to piece together the events surrounding the shooting, and they are asking for the public's help to bring the perpetrator to justice.
