Fulton County DEFIES DOJ in Election Worker Showdown!

Fulton County DEFIES DOJ in Election Worker Showdown!

A fierce legal battle is unfolding in Fulton County, Georgia, as election officials are fighting to shield the identities of those who worked the 2020 election. They’ve asked a federal judge to block a sweeping request from the U.S. Department of Justice for detailed information about poll workers and county employees.

The Fulton County Board of Registration and Elections (FBRE) argues the DOJ’s grand jury subpoena is an “unprecedented and harassing” overreach. Their 27-page motion paints a picture of a politically motivated investigation, suggesting the DOJ is targeting individuals simply because they were involved in an election Donald Trump falsely claims was stolen.

The subpoena demands information on thousands of individuals – poll workers, county employees – to be sent to prosecutors and FBI agents outside the district. FBRE contends this investigation is now futile, arguing that the time limit for prosecuting any alleged 2020 election crimes has already passed.

Georgia’s 2020 election was remarkably close. Joe Biden ultimately won the state by just 11,777 votes, a result confirmed by a painstaking hand recount initiated by Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. This narrow margin fueled persistent, unsubstantiated claims of widespread fraud.

This subpoena isn’t an isolated incident. The DOJ previously sued Raffensperger, attempting to force the release of a complete, unredacted voter registration database. Simultaneously, FBI agents conducted searches at the Fulton County Election Hub and Operation Center, probing allegations related to the 2020 vote.

Further intensifying the scrutiny, the FBI also executed search warrants focused on reports of missing ballots and irregularities in the handling of ballots within Fulton County, the state’s most populous area. These actions have raised concerns about the scope and intent of the federal investigation.

FBRE’s legal challenge characterizes the DOJ’s efforts as “arbitrary fishing expeditions,” lacking a legitimate basis and designed to intimidate those who participated in the election process. They believe the investigation is driven by political vendetta rather than genuine concerns about election integrity.

Defenders of the investigation, like former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, maintain that scrutinizing potential election interference is vital to national security. Gabbard has warned that any interference represents a direct threat to the foundations of American democracy.

The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications, potentially setting a precedent for how future election investigations are conducted and the extent to which the identities of election workers are protected from politically charged inquiries.
