President hosted IndyCar drivers and racing team owner Roger Penske at the White House for a Freedom 250 Grand Prix showcase ahead of the August 22‑23 race in Washington, D.C.
Earlier in the year the President signed an executive order titled “Celebrating American Greatness with American Motor Racing,” directing the preparation of the event and emphasizing national pride.
Participants included drivers Álex Palou, Felix Rosenqvist, and David Malukas, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Penske, Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks, and other officials.
During the ceremony Penske presented a custom race helmet to the President, encouraging him to wear it while leading the field on the course.
The President noted that the cars will race more than 190 miles down Pennsylvania Avenue, a free event open to the public, and joked that holding it during a regular day could result in legal consequences.
He described the event as the first racing gathering of its kind in Washington, D.C., part of the 250th anniversary of American freedom, and invited citizens to attend.
A pit crew demonstrated a six‑second tire change and refueling procedure in front of the President, showcasing the speed and efficiency of IndyCar teams.
