A disturbing pattern of alleged fraud is emerging from Minnesota, centered around members of the Somali community and raising serious questions about the integrity of both public funds and the electoral process.
Investigative reporter Nick Shirley recently brought to light a network of questionable daycare centers allegedly siphoning millions of dollars in federal funding. His investigation revealed one center, claiming $4 million in annual revenue, appeared to operate without a single child in its care.
The scale of the alleged fraud is staggering. In a single day within the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Shirley’s team documented over $110 million in potentially fraudulent claims linked to these daycare operations.
The allegations prompted a swift response from federal authorities. FBI Director Kash Patel announced a surge in agents to Minnesota to investigate the claims, many of which initially surfaced on social media.
But the concerns don’t stop with misused taxpayer money. A separate investigation, conducted in 2020 by James O’Keefe and Project Veritas, uncovered evidence of a significant ballot harvesting scheme with ties to a prominent political figure.
Undercover footage revealed that Ali Isse Gainey, a campaign manager for Representative Ilhan Omar, allegedly played a key role in the operation. The footage showed individuals openly discussing the collection and manipulation of absentee ballots.
One operative, Liban Mohamed, was recorded boasting about collecting hundreds of ballots, stating bluntly, “Money is the king in everything.” He displayed a car filled with absentee ballots intended for a local city council candidate.
Mohamed’s words painted a stark picture of a system corrupted by financial incentives. He explicitly linked the ballot collection to monetary gain, revealing a willingness to exploit the electoral process for personal benefit.
Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe described the scheme as a “commodities trading desk” for ballots, exploiting vulnerable communities – particularly the elderly and immigrant populations – for political advantage.
A political insider within the Somali community, Omar Jamal, approached Project Veritas to expose the operation, stating it was an “open secret” that the Representative would “do anything” to win an election.
Jamal expressed deep concern about the scale of the fraud, fearing it had grown too large to stop. He described a network of operatives actively soliciting ballots and completing them on behalf of voters, effectively stripping them of their right to a private vote.
According to Project Veritas, the Hennepin County Attorney acknowledged the conduct described was “Illegal” and pledged an investigation. However, the full extent of the alleged scheme and any resulting prosecutions remain unclear.
The unfolding situation in Minnesota suggests a troubling confluence of alleged financial fraud and electoral manipulation, raising fundamental questions about accountability and the safeguarding of democratic principles.
