The disappearance and death of Elena Katherine Moore, a 39-year-old fitness trainer from South Carolina, has left her friends and family reeling. Just three weeks before her body was discovered, Moore made mysterious social media comments that have sparked concern and questions about her final days.
Moore was found dead in Lexington County on June 17, almost a week after she went missing on June 11. She had last been seen leaving a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington. The Lexington County Coroner's Office has reported that a forensic autopsy did not find any external signs of injury or trauma, and her cause of death is pending further testing and review of her medical records.
Moore's social media activity in the days leading up to her disappearance has raised suspicions. In a comment made under a post about finding peace after a difficult relationship, Moore wrote, "i am finally free and safe!" Another comment, made under a post about the anger and resentment left behind after a painful relationship, read, "the memories are in the trash- and i stopped loving him a LONG time ago- i just was looking for a way out when i realized i was in a relationship with the devil."
Friends of Moore have spoken out about her final days, with one close friend, Sondra Campbell, stating that Moore was scared for her life when they last spoke on May 31. "She was scared for her life. She actually said those words to me," Campbell said. "Elena is one of my best friends. I've known her over probably 10 years now. We're really close like tell each other everything. She's been that person for me for a long time."
The investigation into Moore's death is being handled by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, but authorities have not said whether they suspect foul play. Moore's disappearance and death have left many questions unanswered, and a full understanding of the circumstances surrounding her final days may take time to uncover.
