Surgeon accused of killing ex-wife and her dentist husband gets first look at Ohio court with legal defense

A chilling case has unfolded in Columbus, Ohio, as a surgeon stands accused of a double homicide that has shaken a quiet neighborhood. Michael McKee, the ex-husband of one of the victims, has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated murder after being extradited from Illinois.

The victims, Spencer and Monique Tepe, were found dead in their Weinland Park home on December 30th. A friend, performing a welfare check after unanswered calls, made the horrifying discovery – a scene of violence that would quickly draw investigators to a former spouse.

Police zeroed in on McKee after tracing a vehicle seen near the Tepe residence shortly before and after the estimated time of the murders. The car was located in Rockford, Illinois, and evidence quickly linked it to the accused surgeon.

The 911 call paints a stark picture of the scene. A frantic voice relayed the unimaginable: a friend found unresponsive, lying in a pool of blood, the silence of the home broken only by the caller’s desperate plea for help.

McKee’s relationship with Monique Tepe was brief, a seven-month marriage that ended with a divorce filing citing irreconcilable differences. She had sought separation while he was completing a residency program hundreds of miles away.

Adding to the tragedy, the couple’s two young children were present in the home during the attack. Remarkably, they were found safe, though the details of those terrifying hours remain a haunting question mark.

Family members believe the children were asleep during the ordeal, shielded from the horror unfolding nearby. The youngest, just one year old, would have been awake during the window of time investigators believe the murders occurred.

Investigators recovered multiple weapons from McKee’s property, with preliminary evidence suggesting at least one was used in the commission of the crime. The charges against McKee include firearm specifications, indicating the potential use of an automatic weapon or silencer.

McKee is now represented by a seasoned attorney, Diane Menashe, known for her previous defense of Dr. William Husel in a high-profile murder case. The legal battle promises to be complex and closely watched.

Just weeks before their deaths, Spencer and Monique were planning to celebrate their five-year wedding anniversary, a poignant reminder of the future stolen from them and the lives irrevocably altered by this tragedy.
