A surge in travel demand across the Visayas and Mindanao propelled passenger volume to a remarkable 16.17 million in 2025, marking a significant milestone for the region’s airports.
Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) spearheaded this growth, welcoming 11.6 million passengers – a 3% increase from the previous year. This bustling hub now connects travelers through 20 different airlines, solidifying its position as a key gateway.
Laguindingan International Airport (LIA) also experienced a substantial rise, serving 2.35 million passengers with the support of three airlines. Simultaneously, Bohol-Panglao International Airport (BPIA) accommodated 2.22 million passengers, facilitated by a network of eight airlines.
These numbers represent more than just statistics; they signify a dramatic improvement in connectivity for both domestic and international travelers. Access to key destinations throughout Cebu, Bohol, and Northern Mindanao has become remarkably easier, streamlining travel within the Philippines.
The growth is directly linked to a flourishing tourism sector and increased business travel within these regions. MCIA further enhanced the travel experience by introducing an innovative air-to-air transfer service, significantly reducing connection times for passengers.
Significant investments were made throughout 2025 to bolster operational reliability at both BPIA and LIA. These upgrades are designed to accommodate future growth and enhance the overall passenger experience.
BPIA is currently undergoing a P4.53-billion expansion plan, poised to increase its capacity from two million to 2.5 million passengers within two years. Looking ahead, the long-term vision aims for a capacity of 3.9 million passengers by 2030.
The 30-year concession for BPIA encompasses comprehensive maintenance, strategic upgrades, and ambitious expansion projects, beginning with the airport’s handover in June 2025. This long-term commitment ensures sustained growth and improvement.
At LIA, a collaboration with Ireland-based daa International will drive further upgrades and optimize operational management. This partnership promises to elevate the airport’s capabilities and enhance its service offerings.
