He suggested a future narrative mirroring Anne Frank’s story could be written about Minnesota, placing responsibility for preventing this on President Trump.
The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum swiftly responded with a powerful rebuke, posted on social media. They unequivocally stated that equating contemporary fears to the targeted murder of Anne Frank solely for being Jewish was unacceptable, particularly given the current rise in antisemitism.
Critics argued that Walz’s analogy was not only deeply offensive but also dangerously irresponsible. Retired Minnesota State Patrol Lt. John Nagel, a congressional candidate, labeled the comparison “dangerous, disgusting, and profoundly irresponsible,” warning against invoking the Holocaust for political gain.
