LOGISTICS GIANT SWALLOWS COLD STORAGE KING!

LOGISTICS GIANT SWALLOWS COLD STORAGE KING!

A significant shift is underway in the Philippine logistics landscape. AC Logistics Holdings Corp. is poised to acquire a controlling 84% stake in Glacier Megafridge, Inc. (GMI), a leading cold storage provider, pending final regulatory approvals.

This isn’t merely a business transaction; it’s a strategic move to overhaul and strengthen the nation’s cold chain infrastructure. AC Logistics envisions a fully integrated logistics network, specifically designed to minimize waste and maximize efficiency in the delivery of temperature-sensitive goods.

The partnership builds upon an existing collaboration through GMAC Logitech Refrigeration Corp., a joint venture already operating facilities in Cagayan de Oro and expanding in Davao. This foundation provides a springboard for rapid growth and seamless integration.

The Philippines currently faces staggering food spoilage rates, estimated between 40% and 50%. This represents a critical vulnerability in the food supply chain, and AC Logistics aims to directly address this issue with enhanced cold storage capabilities.

GMI brings to the table a robust network of 12 strategically located facilities across the country. These facilities utilize advanced Japanese refrigeration technology and boast a combined capacity of 75,000 pallet positions – a substantial resource in the fight against spoilage.

For GMI, the acquisition represents an opportunity to accelerate its two-decade journey of innovation and expansion. The synergy with AC Logistics promises to unlock new levels of service and reach for their customers.

“Together, we can address the growing demand for reliable cold chain solutions,” stated GMI Chief Executive Officer Archie Yan, emphasizing the potential to reduce supply chain inefficiencies and bolster the nation’s food security.

AC Logistics, established in 2021, already provides a comprehensive suite of supply chain services, including freight forwarding, national distribution, and contract logistics. The addition of GMI’s cold storage expertise will solidify its position as a full-service provider.

The company operates a nationwide network of distribution centers and maintains a fleet of temperature-controlled trucks, ensuring a consistent and reliable flow of goods. This extensive infrastructure is crucial for serving a diverse range of industries.

As part of the Ayala group, a conglomerate with interests spanning real estate, banking, and renewable energy, AC Logistics benefits from a strong financial foundation and a long-term commitment to national development.

The Ayala group’s expanding portfolio includes healthcare, mobility, and investments in cutting-edge industrial technologies, signaling a broader strategy of diversification and innovation. This acquisition aligns perfectly with that vision.

While Ayala Corp. shares experienced a slight dip on the day of the announcement, the long-term implications of this strategic move are expected to be overwhelmingly positive, promising a more resilient and efficient logistics sector for the Philippines.
