The debate over artificially generated frames continues, but the technology itself is rapidly evolving. Nvidia’s advancements have already turned heads, and now Intel is poised to join the forefront with a significant update to its XeSS technology.
The latest Intel Arc graphics driver introduces XeSS 3, featuring a three-to-one frame generation capability. This means for every frame your system renders, two additional frames are intelligently created, potentially tripling your perceived frame rate.
XeSS 3 isn’t limited to dedicated Arc graphics cards. Intel is extending this capability to its newest laptop processors with integrated graphics, including the forthcoming Panther Lake series. These chips promise graphics performance rivaling the Arc B390 and B370.
The benefits extend beyond the newest hardware. Support is also rolling out to Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake, and even Meteor Lake laptops dating back to 2023, offering a substantial performance boost to a wide range of users.
While XeSS is designed to be versatile – functioning even on Nvidia and AMD hardware – full support for the new multi-frame generation feature won’t be universal. The extent of compatibility will vary across different laptops and systems.
Currently, XeSS 3 relies on existing XeSS 2 integration within games. As of now, that support is available in a relatively limited selection of 44 titles, but the list is expected to grow as developers adopt the technology.
This update represents a significant leap forward for Intel’s graphics technology, bringing advanced frame generation to a broader audience and potentially redefining the gaming experience on both desktops and laptops.
