COLLEGE CENSORS AMERICA: Student Activists SILENCED!

A persistent struggle is unfolding on college campuses across the nation, as students repeatedly petition for recognition of Turning Point chapters, only to face repeated denials. After two rejections, students are left questioning their path forward, advised to refine their applications and presentations with the guidance of student government leadership.

The situation echoes a pattern of difficulty for Turning Point chapters seeking official status, a trend intensified following the shocking assassination of the organization’s founder last September. The loss sent ripples through the conservative movement and ignited a surge of interest in the group’s mission.

Loyola University New Orleans witnessed a similar months-long battle during the fall semester, where students attempting to establish a chapter were twice rebuffed by the student government. They now face a frustrating cycle: unlimited appeals to the very board that has already rejected their proposals.

At California Lutheran University, the attempt to revive a previously dissolved Turning Point chapter was blocked in December. A university senate member openly expressed concern that the group would introduce unwanted “controversy” and promote a specific, potentially divisive, ideology.

Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego also denied students the opportunity to form a chapter last year, continuing a pattern of rejection that began with two failed attempts in 2021. These repeated setbacks raise questions about the barriers to entry for certain student organizations.

The tragic death of the organization’s founder unexpectedly fueled a dramatic increase in interest. In the wake of his memorial – one of the largest ever held for a private citizen – Turning Point reported receiving over 120,000 inquiries from students eager to establish new chapters.

At the time of the founder’s death, Turning Point already maintained a presence on 900 campuses nationwide. The influx of new interest suggests a powerful desire among students to engage with the organization’s principles, even as obstacles to formal recognition persist.
