TORONTO EXPLODES: Tourism SHATTERS Records!

Toronto is experiencing a remarkable surge in tourism, reaching unprecedented heights. The year 2025 witnessed a record-breaking 28.2 million visitors, injecting over $9.1 billion into the city’s thriving economy.

This influx of travelers wasn’t just a number; it represented a powerful economic engine. Direct tourism spending exceeded the previous year’s record by 4%, generating a staggering $13.5 billion in overall economic impact.

A significant portion of this revenue – 37% – originated from international and U.S. markets, demonstrating Toronto’s global appeal. Despite global economic uncertainties, the city has firmly established itself as a premier destination.

International arrivals led the growth, soaring 8% to 1.4 million visitors. The United Kingdom and Germany were particularly strong contributors, with increases of 12% and 10% respectively.

Interestingly, domestic travel also saw a boost, rising 3% to 25 million visitors. This increase coincided with a noticeable decline in Canadian travel to the United States, suggesting a renewed focus on exploring within the country.

The U.S. market, while still substantial with 1.9 million visitors, experienced a 6% decrease compared to the previous year. This shift highlights the growing importance of diversifying tourism sources.

Mayor Olivia Chow emphasized the vital role visitors play in enriching Toronto’s communities and supporting local businesses. The city’s vibrant neighborhoods, diverse culture, and world-class culinary scene continue to captivate travelers.

Looking ahead, Toronto is poised to welcome the world during the FIFA World Cup 2026, hosting six matches and a vibrant fan festival. This event promises to further elevate the city’s international profile.

Toronto’s economic impact extends far beyond its city limits. Visitors spend an additional $2.2 billion exploring destinations like Niagara, Muskoka, and Ottawa, bolstering economies throughout Ontario.

Major meetings and events are a cornerstone of Toronto’s tourism success. In 2025, the city hosted 74 such events, attracting 378,000 delegates and generating $982 million in economic activity – a remarkable 51% increase year-over-year.

Future business secured by Destination Toronto and its partners will bring another 70 major meetings and events to the city, promising over 370,000 attendees and nearly $973 million in economic impact.

These events aren’t just about immediate spending; they solidify Toronto’s position as a global hub for key industries like life sciences, technology, and finance, attracting investment, trade, and top talent.

The FIFA World Cup in 2026 is set to be the largest event, but Toronto’s ability to consistently attract and host significant gatherings demonstrates its enduring appeal and economic strength.
