A chilling sequence of events culminated in attempted murder charges against Michael Richard Fadich, known as “Rem Heathen,” a suspect with a history of violent online rhetoric. Months prior, Representative Nancy Mace reported a direct and graphic threat against her life, a warning that authorities initially dismissed.
The threat surfaced in May, manifesting as a disturbing image on Instagram: a gun aimed directly at Mace’s face. It was an unmistakable message of intent, a clear declaration of malice that sent a wave of fear through the congresswoman’s office. Despite the explicit nature of the threat, prosecutors took no action.
Eight months later, the consequences of that inaction became tragically clear. Fadich is now accused of attempted murder following a shooting in Portland, Oregon, leaving a man hospitalized with serious injuries. Mace argues this violent act was entirely preventable.
Portland police responded to reports of gunfire in December, discovering a victim wounded behind an apartment complex. Their investigation quickly focused on Fadich, who was interviewed and subsequently led to the seizure of multiple firearms, including a rifle and handguns.
A grand jury indictment followed, charging Fadich with attempted murder, assault, unlawful use of a weapon, and coercion. He was apprehended in California on January 8th and transferred to Oregon custody, alongside a second suspect facing weapons and coercion charges.
Court records list Fadich as female, adding another layer to a complex and disturbing case. The incident has ignited a firestorm of criticism directed at the prosecutors who initially declined to pursue charges.
Mace is fiercely vocal in her condemnation, stating that “blood is on the hands” of those who ignored the clear and present danger. She expressed concern for the safety of other inmates, given Fadich’s documented history of extremist views.
Fadich’s social media presence, according to Mace, was saturated with Antifa propaganda, celebrations of violence, and explicit threats. Images showed the suspect posing with Antifa flags and displaying an arsenal of weapons, including an AR-15.
Mace is now demanding a full investigation by the Department of Justice and the FBI, questioning why federal prosecutors failed to act on the threat against a member of Congress. She is also seeking consideration of federal charges against Fadich.
The congresswoman remains resolute, declaring that threats will not silence her. She emphasizes the critical importance of prosecutors fulfilling their duty to protect citizens and the devastating consequences when they fail to do so.
