HERO DRIVER'S FINAL RUN: Donate NOW to Honor His Legacy!

A wave of grief has settled over the Waterloo region following a tragic accident on Monday morning. Uyen Nguyen, a 38-year-old woman, lost her life when her car left the roadway and plunged from a highway overpass.

The incident occurred on a westbound Highway 7 flyover ramp leading to Highway 8 in Kitchener, around 7:30 a.m. Nguyen was on her way to work at Toyota when her vehicle struck a substantial snowbank and was launched over the barrier, falling to the highway below.

Authorities confirmed Nguyen died at the scene. Sergeant Kerry Schmidt of the Ontario Provincial Police described the circumstances as a loss of control, with the vehicle “launching over the snow embankment.” The impact was devastating.

Uyen Nguyen was killed when she drove over an embankment of snow on a ramp and fell to the highway below.

This wasn’t an isolated incident. Earlier that same day, at approximately 2 a.m., a taxi cab also lost control on the same ramp, ending up on Highway 8. Fortunately, the taxi driver sustained only minor injuries.

The recent massive snowstorm created treacherous conditions, and investigators believe it played a significant role in both accidents. Snowplows had cleared the roadway, but the sheer volume of snow prevented them from completely removing the drifts along the concrete barriers.

Police are conducting a thorough investigation, examining the vehicle for any mechanical failures and considering both environmental and human factors that may have contributed to the tragedy. Every detail is being scrutinized.

A fundraiser established in Nguyen’s memory quickly gained momentum, reflecting the profound impact she had on those around her. She is remembered as a cherished daughter, sister, and friend.

As of Thursday afternoon, over $43,000 had been raised, a testament to the outpouring of support for Nguyen’s family during this incredibly difficult time. The community is united in its sorrow and desire to help.

The Highway 7 ramp was reopened after the investigation concluded, but the memory of this heartbreaking event will linger. The focus now shifts to supporting Nguyen’s loved ones as they navigate their grief.
