A coordinated nationwide assault on the Latin Kings street gang culminated Friday with the arrests of nearly 50 individuals, shattering a network responsible for violence, drug trafficking, and direct threats against those sworn to protect the public.
The three-month operation, codenamed "Broken Crown," wasn’t confined to a single city or state. Instead, it spanned across the country, uniting over a dozen FBI field offices with a coalition of federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies.
The takedown wasn’t just about numbers; it was about disrupting a deeply entrenched criminal enterprise. Since its launch last October, authorities recovered more than a dozen firearms, nearly $200,000 in illegally obtained cash, and over 10 kilograms of dangerous narcotics – including cocaine and fentanyl.
The investigation revealed a chilling disregard for law enforcement, with one Latin Kings member explicitly threatening an officer in October. That individual is now in custody, facing the consequences of their actions.
The brazenness of the gang extended further. In Minnesota, an alleged member broke into an FBI vehicle and stole a rifle, only to be swiftly apprehended and charged with federal crimes.
In Indianapolis, another alleged member received a 21-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to distributing methamphetamine, a stark illustration of the severe penalties facing those involved in fueling the drug trade.
The FBI’s Milwaukee Area Safe Streets Task Force executed a series of raids in January, resulting in four arrests and the seizure of ten firearms, alongside over $120,000 in illicit funds. The investigation didn’t stop there.
Two additional gang members connected to the Milwaukee case were later arrested, leading to the recovery of a rifle modified with a machine gun conversion device and a pistol, highlighting the dangerous weaponry in their possession.
These arrests represent a significant blow to the Latin Kings’ operations, demonstrating a relentless commitment to dismantling violent criminal networks and safeguarding communities across the nation.
