A call for swift action reverberated through the halls of power this weekend, as a congressman publicly pressed for a direct intervention with international law enforcement. He’s demanding answers regarding a crucial request for a global arrest warrant linked to a massive corruption case.
Congressman Tobias Reynald M. Tiangco is urging the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to dispatch a team to Interpol headquarters. The goal: to aggressively pursue a “red notice” – essentially an international alert – for a former lawmaker embroiled in a multibillion-peso scandal.
Typically, Interpol responses to such requests for global arrest alerts aren’t delayed. Tiangco noted that a reply usually arrives within three to four weeks, yet the NBI’s November request concerning former Party-list Rep. Elizaldy M. Co remains unanswered.
The congressman’s statement implies a growing frustration with the lack of progress. He believes a high-level delegation directly engaging with Interpol officials is now necessary to understand the hold-up and expedite the process.
Attempts to reach the former lawmaker’s legal counsel, Ruy Alberto S. Rondain, for comment have so far been unsuccessful. The silence adds another layer of intrigue to the unfolding situation.
The former representative, who once held the powerful position of House Appropriations Committee chair, simultaneously operated a construction firm. This firm has secured numerous significant infrastructure projects under the current administration, raising further questions about potential conflicts of interest.
