The 68th Annual Grammy Awards unfolded at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, but the event quickly became entangled in controversy extending far beyond the music itself.
Former President Trump unleashed a scathing critique of the show, branding it “garbage” and “virtually unwatchable” in a late-night statement. He specifically targeted host Trevor Noah, drawing a line between Noah and Jimmy Kimmel as purveyors of low-rated award shows.
The core of Trump’s fury stemmed from a joke made by Noah during the broadcast, alluding to Trump and Bill Clinton’s alleged association with Jeffrey Epstein’s island. The former president vehemently denied the claim, calling it “incorrect” and “defamatory.”
Trump insisted he had never visited Epstein Island, nor been anywhere near it, and expressed surprise at being falsely accused. He stated that even the “Fake News Media” had never leveled such a charge against him.
The response escalated into a threat of legal action. Trump vowed to unleash his lawyers on Noah, labeling him a “total loser,” a “pathetic dope,” and promising a costly lawsuit. He hinted at past legal successes, referencing George Papadopoulos and CBS.
Adding another layer to the evening, Grammy winners Kehlani and Billie Eilish used their acceptance speeches as a platform to voice political dissent, shouting “f*ck ICE!” to the audience.
The Grammys, intended as a celebration of musical achievement, were overshadowed by political statements and a brewing legal battle, transforming the event into a focal point for national discourse.
