JUDGE SILENCED: Legal Titan Falls After Decades of Power!

Robert Pratt, a distinguished federal judge who dedicated over twenty-six years to the bench, passed away Wednesday at the age of 78. His sudden death followed a cardiac arrest suffered while he was exercising at a local gym, leaving a void in the legal community and among those who knew him.

Appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1997 to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa, Judge Pratt presided over countless cases, earning a reputation for fairness and a deep commitment to justice. He officially retired in 2023, leaving behind a legacy shaped by thoughtful rulings and a dedication to upholding the law.

Beyond his courtroom duties, Pratt was known for his compassionate spirit and advocacy for those often overlooked. An obituary described him as someone who consistently “championed the underdog and the uncelebrated,” a testament to his character and values.

He actively sought to connect with the community, notably spearheading an annual Fourth of July naturalization ceremony. These moving events, held in conjunction with Iowa Cubs baseball games, welcomed dozens of new citizens to the United States, embodying his belief in the promise of America.

Judge Pratt wasn’t afraid to express his convictions, even when it stirred controversy. In 2020, he publicly criticized President Donald Trump’s series of pardons, a move he later acknowledged was inappropriate for a sitting judge.

His pointed remarks, delivered during an interview, drew a sharp distinction between justice and political favor. He famously stated that to receive a pardon, one seemingly had to be “either a Republican, a convicted child murderer or a turkey,” sparking a judicial misconduct complaint.

Pratt responded with a sincere apology, acknowledging the impropriety of his statements and reaffirming his commitment to impartiality. He expressed deep regret for the embarrassment caused to the court and the judiciary, emphasizing his unwavering dedication to the Code of Conduct for United States Judges.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Mary, and a loving family including three children, a stepdaughter, and seven grandchildren. His passing marks the end of a remarkable career defined by service, integrity, and a profound belief in the power of justice.
