Apple's NEXT MacBook Pro Will SHOCK You!

Apple's NEXT MacBook Pro Will SHOCK You!

The arrival of the M5 MacBook Pro in late 2025 sparked excitement, but many professionals are eagerly awaiting the more powerful M5 Pro and M5 Max versions. Whispers suggest these enhanced models are closer than ever, potentially launching alongside the release of macOS 26.3. This is the story of what we know so far.

Apple last significantly altered the MacBook Pro’s design in 2021, and the M5 iteration maintained that aesthetic. Expect the M5 Pro and Max to follow suit, preserving the familiar form factor. While a new color option is always possible, a major redesign isn’t anticipated until the next generation – the M6.

Rumors point to substantial changes arriving with the M6, potentially marking the 20th anniversary of the MacBook Pro. Reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman indicate the M5 Pro series will be the last of the current design, paving the way for OLED screens, a streamlined design eliminating the notch with a hole-punch camera, and a thinner profile.

For now, the M5 Pro and Max won’t bring display updates. The current mini-LED technology, peaking at 1,600 nits, is expected to remain. However, these chips will continue to offer superior external display support compared to the base M5, accommodating at least two 6K displays (and potentially four with the M5 Max).

The future of MacBook Pro displays is captivating. Production of OLED displays is underway, though they aren’t expected until 2026. Even more intriguing, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts a touchscreen MacBook Pro could arrive as early as 2026, potentially with the M6 generation – though a 2027 release remains a possibility.

The M4 MacBook Pro featured an upgraded 12MP FaceTime camera, a welcome improvement. The M5 Pro and Max are unlikely to see further camera enhancements, though a potential upgrade to 18MP, mirroring the iPhone 17, isn’t entirely off the table. The M6 generation, however, is rumored to introduce a sleek hole-punch webcam, finally replacing the notch.

The M5 MacBook Pro was a chip refresh, but the M5 Pro and M5 Max are poised to be significant leaps forward for professionals. These chips are designed to handle demanding workflows that push the limits of Apple Silicon, scaling core counts and memory interfaces to deliver sustained high performance.

A revolutionary chip design is at the heart of the M5 Pro and M5 Max rumors. Reports suggest Apple is separating the CPU and GPU onto distinct blocks. This modular approach could allow for customized configurations, letting users prioritize CPU or GPU power based on their specific needs – a base CPU with a maxed-out GPU, for example.

This innovative design utilizes a “SoIC-MH” fabrication process, vertically stacking chips for superior heat control and performance. Combined with the dual-fan cooling system in the 14-inch and 16-inch chassis, the M5 Pro and Max promise to stay cool under intense workloads, unlike the base M5’s single-fan setup.

Expect significant performance gains. The M5 Pro and M5 Max are anticipated to deliver a 25-30% performance uplift compared to the M4 generation. This includes architectural improvements, potentially leveraging TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process (N3P) for increased efficiency and speed.

Beyond raw power, the M5 Pro and Max are expected to excel in AI. Rumors point to a dedicated “Neural Accelerator” within each GPU core, supplementing the standard Neural Engine and boosting AI-based workloads. Memory bandwidth is also expected to increase, potentially reaching significantly higher throughput than the M4 Pro/Max.

Connectivity will also see upgrades. The M5 Pro and Max will undoubtedly support Thunderbolt 5, offering up to 120Gbps video rates and 80Gbps data transfer. Furthermore, the integration of the N1 chip, similar to that in the iPhone 17, could bring Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 for enhanced wireless performance.

Apple MacBook Pro ports

Apple refined the MacBook Pro with the M4 generation, upgrading base RAM to 16GB and introducing Nano-texture glass. The M5 Pro and Max will likely build on this foundation, with Wi-Fi 7 being a key addition. A 5G modem is in development, but it’s unlikely to appear before 2026.

The anticipated launch window for the M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros is spring 2026, potentially coinciding with the release of macOS 26.3. Fabrication facilities are already being prepared, utilizing the advanced SoIC-MH process. Internal references to these models within Apple’s kernel debug kit further suggest an imminent arrival.

Pricing for the M5 Pro and Max models is expected to remain consistent with the current Pro and Max configurations. The base M5 model currently starts at $1,599, while the M4 Pro models begin at $1,999 (14-inch) and $2,499 (16-inch). The M4 Max models start at $3,199 (14-inch) and $3,499 (16-inch).
