Varian’s legal team argued that Einhorn was the driving force, relentlessly suggesting surgical intervention as the solution to her gender dysphoria. Testimony revealed a disturbing pattern of pressure, overriding the concerns of Varian’s mother, Claire Deacon, who feared her daughter’s potential for self-harm if the surgery was denied.

She initially resisted the procedure, declaring it “never gonna happen,” but felt overwhelmed by the psychologist’s insistent advocacy. Varian’s case is just one of approximately 28 detransitioner lawsuits currently navigating the legal system across the country. These cases represent a rising tide of individuals seeking accountability for decisions made during vulnerable periods of their lives.
