APPLE EMERGENCY FIX: FaceTime & Messages on the BRINK!

APPLE EMERGENCY FIX: FaceTime & Messages on the BRINK!

A quiet but crucial update rolled out from Apple this week, impacting millions of users still relying on older devices. The company released macOS 11.7.11, alongside watchOS 10.6.2 and watchOS 9.6.4, addressing a fundamental need for continued functionality.

The core of these updates isn’t about flashy new features, but about keeping essential services running. Specifically, Apple revised a key certificate within the operating systems – the one that powers FaceTime and Messages. Without this refresh, those core communication tools would cease to function as intended.

This certificate is designed with an expiration date, and the latest revision extends its usability all the way to January 2027. While the reason for skipping updates to macOS 12 and 13 remains unclear, it appears those versions were previously addressed with the necessary certificate changes.

Beyond the main updates, Apple also quietly released macOS Catalina Security Update 2026-001 and watchOS 6.3.1. A revised iOS 16.7.14 also appeared, swiftly replacing the previous 16.7.13 version which experienced network connectivity issues.

Updating your Mac is straightforward: simply navigate to Software Update within System Preferences. Apple Watch users can initiate the update process through the Apple Watch app on their paired iPhone. It’s a simple step with significant consequences for maintaining connectivity.

Apple’s commitment to older operating systems, even after official support ends, is noteworthy. While macOS 11 Big Sur reached its end-of-life in 2023, Apple continues to issue critical updates like these to ensure basic operability and security.

Support for watchOS 9 and 10 remains active, reflecting Apple’s ongoing dedication to its wearable ecosystem. However, watchOS 6, dating back to 2019, is now largely left behind, receiving only infrequent and essential maintenance when absolutely necessary.
