PRITZKER'S $5 MILLION BOMBSHELL: Senate Race EXPLODES!

PRITZKER'S $5 MILLION BOMBSHELL: Senate Race EXPLODES!

A quiet power play is unfolding in Illinois as the race for an open Senate seat intensifies. Governor JB Pritzker has made a substantial, direct financial intervention, bolstering the campaign of his lieutenant governor, Juliana Stratton, with a significant contribution to a super PAC.

In December alone, Pritzker channeled $5 million into Illinois Future PAC, a move designed to elevate Stratton’s profile in a crowded Democratic primary. This injection of funds represents the vast majority of the PAC’s $6.3 million total raised last year, with family members, including cousin Jennifer Pritzker, contributing over $1 million.

The primary election, slated for March 17th, features a competitive field including Stratton, and Democratic Representatives Raja Krishnamoorthi and Robin Kelly. A recent debate offered a glimpse into the candidates’ differing stances on key issues and potential alliances within the Senate.

A central point of contention during the debate revolved around potential support for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. While Krishnamoorthi remained noncommittal, stating he would “hear his pitch,” and Kelly suggested her support hinged on the opposing candidates, Stratton took a decidedly firm position.

Stratton unequivocally declared her opposition to Schumer’s leadership, emphasizing she had already publicly stated her stance. She distinguished herself as the only candidate on stage willing to openly challenge the established Senate hierarchy.

Pritzker’s endorsement of Stratton came months ago, in April, signaling a clear preference as Senator Dick Durbin prepares to conclude his long tenure. This financial support now amplifies that endorsement, providing Stratton with crucial resources in a fiercely contested race.

Meanwhile, Krishnamoorthi has emerged as a fundraising powerhouse, having already invested approximately $20.5 million in television advertising since July. The sheer volume of his ad spending underscores the scale of his campaign and his determination to secure the Democratic nomination.
