The world’s most talked-about golf league welcomed a new face this week: Miguel Tabuena of the Philippines. He stepped onto the global stage, making his debut with the formidable 4Aces Golf Club in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Tabuena’s opportunity arose following a roster change within the powerhouse team, led by two-time major champion Dustin Johnson. He was selected to fill the spot vacated by Patrick Reed, a testament to his rising skill and potential.
The pressure was palpable as he prepared for his first tee time, launching from the 10th hole at the Riyadh Golf Club. He found himself grouped with Yosuke Asaji, a familiar competitor who previously edged him out for a coveted wild card, and Ben Campbell of the RangeGoats GC.
Tabuena wasn’t alone in representing the 4Aces. Alongside Johnson, who himself experienced the energy of Filipino golf fans at the International Series Philippines – a tournament Tabuena brilliantly won – were Belgian newcomers Thomas Detry and Thomas Pieters.
This year’s Riyadh event broke new ground for the LIV Golf League. For the first time, the tournament adopted a 72-hole, four-round stroke-play format, adding a layer of strategic complexity to the competition.
The field boasted an unprecedented 57 players, the largest in the league’s history. All eyes were on defending champion Adrian Meronk, alongside stars like Jon Rahm and Joaquin Niemann, both previous season champions.
