The new Highmark Stadium opened on Wednesday, marking a $2.1 billion investment in Buffalo’s sports infrastructure.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul attended the ribbon‑cutting ceremony wearing a Bills‑themed blue suit and cap.
Hochul attempted to rally the crowd with chants, but the audience remained largely silent.
She spoke about championship aspirations and praised the city’s labor force, urging supporters to bring energy to the new venue.
Other attendees included Bills owner and CEO Terry Pegula, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz, and Mary Wilson, the widow of founder Ralph Wilson Jr.
The stadium, now 99.75% complete, is set to host a training camp practice on August 8.
Architectural features include underground heating coils to keep natural grass from freezing, a snow‑melting system, and a canopy that shields fans from Buffalo’s harsh winter winds.
