A historic moment unfolded in Yerevan, Armenia, as Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by Second Lady Usha Vance and their children, stepped onto Armenian soil – the first time a sitting US President or Vice President has ever visited the nation.
The arrival was marked by a formal greeting from Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Presidential Palace, a scene brimming with diplomatic significance and a palpable sense of anticipation.
Vance immediately acknowledged Armenia’s profound historical and spiritual importance, recognizing it as the world’s oldest Christian nation, having adopted the faith in 301 AD. He spoke of a deep connection, acknowledging the enduring strength of a people who have faced centuries of persecution for their beliefs.
The weight of that history is undeniable; the early 20th century witnessed the horrific Armenian Genocide, a systematic slaughter of over 1.3 million people at the hands of the Ottoman Turks. This tragic past underscores the resilience and unwavering faith of the Armenian people.
“This is a beautiful country,” Vance stated, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome extended to his family. “I feel a great amount of affinity to the people of Armenia,” he continued, emphasizing the shared foundation of Christian faith.
