A Senate hearing looms this Tuesday, poised to reveal a staggering web of fraud reaching billions of dollars within Minnesota, alongside unsettling evidence of foreign interference fueling unrest across the nation.
Senator Josh Hawley, chairing the Homeland Security Subcommittee on Disaster Management, intends to expose a systemic theft impacting vital programs. Testimony will come from a Minnesota state senator and representatives from independent watchdog organizations, painting a grim picture of stolen resources.
The core of the issue? Billions pilfered from programs designed to protect the most vulnerable – child nutrition, disaster relief, housing assistance, Medicaid, and substance abuse services – all orchestrated by transnational criminal networks.
Senator Hawley asserts that American taxpayers are being systematically robbed, with hundreds of billions flowing out of the country annually while foreign entities actively sow discord within U.S. borders. He demands an end to the flow of “dark money” and a decisive crackdown on foreign influence.
Minnesota State Senator Mark Koran will deliver damning testimony, alleging that Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison knowingly allowed fraud to flourish, describing it as the “largest expansion and fastest acceleration of fraud this country has ever seen.”
Witnesses are prepared to claim that senior officials not only possessed knowledge of the fraudulent activity but actively concealed it from the public, manipulating audit records and silencing those who dared to speak out.
A whistleblower from the Minnesota Department of Human Services recounts a targeted “smear campaign” launched after she raised concerns about the escalating fraud as early as 2019, highlighting a culture of intimidation.
Federal prosecutors estimate the scale of the theft to be as high as $9 billion, funneled through a network of sham daycare centers, fraudulent food programs, and illegitimate health clinics. A significant portion of those charged to date are members of Minnesota’s Somali community.
The hearing will also feature testimony from Seamus Bruner of the Government Accountability Institute, Dylan Hedtler-Gaudette from the Project on Government Oversight, and Haywood Talcove, CEO of LexisNexis Risk Solutions, Government.
Talcove’s testimony will detail how transnational groups are exploiting federal assistance programs, diverting stolen funds to finance organized crime, drug trafficking, human exploitation, and even supporting terrorist organizations or hostile foreign governments.
Bruner will focus on the financial connections to foreign actors, specifically citing individuals linked to the Chinese Communist Party, suggesting a deliberate effort to destabilize and exploit American systems.
